Presents
School seasons
are like a kid
opening presents
on their birthday.
It goes by quick
but seems like it’s
never going to end.
Running, jumping
throwing, kicking
-getting ready for
the long season ahead.
“Get on the line!”
Coaches yell.
Neverending practices
constant whining by everyone.
First day jitters
Second day becomes
our “new” normal.
Class after Class
never knowing what
new things we’re
going to learn.
Like a child with
a present in hand,
wrapped, guessing
what new toy they got.
First quarter flew by
just getting used to our
everyday, not sleeping
all day schedule.
Next is the shoe
squeaking, heart pounding
one on one, weight lifting
winter sporting events.
“Get on the line!”
is used more than ever
either for running or listening.
First semester finals
freshmen year, is like the child
getting anxious to
open the biggest present.
Wanting to know what’s
in it- wanting to know
if you passed your tests.
Third quarter, knowing
you’re almost to the conclusion.
Spring is in, winter’s out,
children playing making memories.
Now spring sports: track
baseball, golf. Counting down
the days til’ you get the sleeping
all day schedule back.
Getting ready for
the end of the year
finals, the first and
last of freshmen year.
Now the last present.
Wanting to play with all
your new toys… and freedom.
No one watching your every move.
The last day of school,
with the freedom starting
tomorrow, getting to play
with all of our “new” toys.
