Life isn't measured by how many breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away.

I sat down on the couch knowing something was wrong
My heart was beating so fast I thought it would pop out of my chest
and then he told me something I will never forget
Tears streamed out if my eyes like a river never wanting to stop
I couldn’t hold in my emotions any longer
Why did this have to happen to him?
Why my grandpa?
The one that helped me through everything
The one I trusted with all my secrets
The one who would hold me tight when I had bad days
Why?

He was the sweetest caring person ever
He always wanted to help others
Why couldn’t he have stayed just a little longer?
Why couldn’t he see my graduate high school?
Why couldn’t he see my first child?
Why?

I just wanted to spend one more night
one more day
one more hour
one more minute
with him
My grandpa
Another victim of cancer
Why?

Cancer

I’ll never quite understand why it took him
I’ll never understand what it really is
I’ll never understand why it take the ones we love
I’ll never understand cancer

Cancer

That word lingers in my mind
Four years later and I still dread the word

Cancer

Why?

Cancer

That word will forever live with me
Have a different meaning to me than anyone else
It has so many thing attached

Cancer

It makes me cry
Why?

Veteran
Grandpa
Hero
Father
Role Model
The last thing on the list
by far the worst
Victim of cancer
Why does cancer take so much from us?
Why does it leave us with so much sadness?
Why can’t it just go away?
Why can’t it just let us live?
Why?

To this day I still miss him
Wondering when I will be able to see him again
If I will see him again
When I will see him again
I NEED to see him again
even if it is just for awhile
I need to see him
Him
My Grandpa
My savior
My hero

I was inspired to write this because of the hard time that I had to go through with my grandpa deing and I thougt that a lot of people could relate to it.
