How Did I Not Know?
How tight can you close your eyes?
How much can you imagine without leaving where you stand?
How long can you go knowing the world isn’t that great?
How do you know that its worth the fight?
How tight can you bound your wrists?
How do you ever expect to get out like that?
How can you even think twice about grabbing my hand?
How will we survive to the end?
How long can you hold your ground?
How do you think I can stay?
Without you just stumbling away?
How do you believe in this sort of thing?
How long can you go on pretending?
How much longer will I have to wait for you to come clean?
Without having the ultimate price to pay?
How can you expect me to live if you are gone?
You asked why I am asking you this
But that didn’t even cross my mind
Because all I have been wanting to say
Is how do you feel what you feel?

This piece was written after watching a close friend suffer through depression. Its to show the journey of not understanding, to being confused, then to be angered and finally to confront the person. I hope people will see in this how difficult it is being a simple bystasnder at first in a situation like mine.
