Books fill up my room.
Not baseball cards,
or pictures of girls,
or basketballs.
Maybe a blown up picture of …
… Pam Anderson might help.

Black-framed glasses
and a white,
pale,
lanky
body.
I should start working out.

At least I can read.
I read four books a day last summer.
The librarian,
80-year-old Mrs. Woodsworth,
she knows my middle name.
If only I had a real friend.
I am sick of seeing her old,
bony,
pale body.
Although it resembles mine.

The kids at school laugh.
Is it the way I dress?
Lacoste,
Ralph Lauren,
La Tigre.
I’ve tried every designer out there.
Staying in the house really saves me money.
My stupid rich parents give me $50 a week for lunch.
$50 times 36 weeks …
what is that?
$1,000,
$2,000,
$10,000?
I should probably know.
Straight A’s 12 years in a row
and counting.

With all of this,
or none of this –
it depends how you look at it –
all I need is a friend.

Maybe you can find a friend somewhere because i think everyone makes a real friend sometimes. Its not like it have to be a person you can be friend with your dog or a plant or anything your really close with

Wow! Sounds like a great book! I am very appreciative of all the big and small things in my life but, the book does sound good and I'll look for it next time  go to the Library or Barnes and Noble. Thanks!

this is really good, as for needing a friend; sometime in the future you will find someone you can truly relate to you and they will become your best friend

aww that was really neat! i really liked it! ....don't listen to futurewriter. i think that you did everything well, and the more description the better!!!! and does it matter weather or not your "phrasing is incoherent" or not? all that matters is what meanings that the reader gets from reading your work and i definataly got some meanng! that was great!

Who's the author of that book? I've read cinderella but not Chines CInderella? What's it about? Have you read the Book: The Woman Warrior? I had to read it for school.

Wow! Great job! i agreee that books are awesome. It's so fun to read books and to get to knoqw the characters then, when the character gets hurt, you feel sad because you feel like you knew the character.

You know, a lot of kids don't have parents. You should try to appreciate them; add Chinese Cinderella to your reading list, it will help you to value your "stupid rich parents"..

You should be proud of yourself. People aren't always friendly, but you seem like an incredible person to me. So many people can relate to your open vulnerability, including myself. That was refreshing, hearing someone who doesn't dwell in pity but states the things that upsets them. I loved it. Thank you.

I can relate big time with the reading. And the friend thing. Sometimes I would rather be alone that have to deal with the people that call themselves my friends. Sometimes, it's not even worth it. Books never let me down. They can be your ultimate friends.

But either way, this poem is awesome. It feels real and genuine. I actually felt emotions while reading it. Keep writing!

It's difficult to find the right friends and even though you may not have them now, you will gain them and find out who your true friends are. If people have to low blow you which means always have somethin rude to say then they're the ones with the insecurities; not you. So, most likely they weren't real to begin with.

I totally relate with the part about reading 4 books a day. Loved the poem! I'd be glad to be your friend. :)

It's not easy to write so freely about your emotions like you have. But somehow i always find an outlet in poetry.
