Winter Days
Cold temperatures,
freshly fallen snow,
and a mug of hot chocolate topped with whipped cream.
Bright orange and yellow fires in the fireplace
bring warmth to the bitterly cold winter.
I hear the crackling logs and smell them burning
as I sit on the brown chair by the large, glass windows,
sipping my hot chocolate slowly
so I don’t burn my tongue.
When temperatures reach below twenty degrees,
I would rather stay inside,
where large blankets can hug me,
like a child hugs their parents when they are scared.
In my living room,
where I can watch movies
in front of the friendly fire.
As I watch the snow fall from the sky,
I admire how pretty it is
and I am reminded of why I enjoy winter.
I can see the neighbors outside sledding
on the large, mountainous hill in their backyard.
Screaming, laughing, and smiling,
it is almost as if there are cheerleaders outside my window.
When I have to walk outside in these frigid temperatures,
I prepare myself for a numbing sensation.
I put on my thick winter coat,
my fuzzy gray mittens,
and my heavy boots.
When I feel the inside of my nose start to freeze,
I walk faster to get inside.
Cold temperatures,
falling snow,
watching movies,
hot chocolate with cold whipped cream,
and warm chicken noodle soup
remind me that winter can be the coldest,
yet warmest season of the year.
