Fernweh

My desire for freedom is unending
An ache for distant places
And I feel it in the waves
Letting the water rush past my feet as I stand
  Breathing
Just breathing
Taking in every second for I am never letting go
The suns warmth hugs my skin as it sets slowly
Leading a canvas of colors behind it
Mesmerizing
And the feeling is overwhelming
No one truly knows paradise until they have felt this feeling
Relief
Just breathing
Sinking into the ongoing sound of waves crashing
And with each one you let go of yourself
All your thoughts, all your emotion gone with the current
But just one, you feel free
Free for the first time and all you want to do is run, run and don’t stop
But you cant, your frozen in this very moment
And all you can do is stare
Stare far out into the sky, far out into the water
And even when the sun is gone and the color fades to black
The luminescent moon and the tiny angels surrounding it bring the same freedom
Freedom to discover yourself
Freedom to be who you really are
For when you change with the seasons
That same sun who painted the sky, those same waves that sang to you
That same sand that held your every move, down to the last grain
Will still be there
Waiting for you to come home
Waiting for you stare at it and it back at you

The author's comments:

Fernweh means "desire to travel"

My whole life I wanted to travel the world and I have always felt essentially a "desire to travel". I greatly admire people with the same intention.

This poem was mean't to symbolize getting lost in the beauty of the world and feeling the freedom that radiates off of it. It suits those who like to discover new things and who have a passion for it as well.
