The Lake Below My Feet
It sits peacefully in the chair,
nothing more than us,
but yet so complex.
It’s humble smile gleaming through the water.
Promising infinite wisdom.
The lake is deep,
dark and blue.
But, my eyes are blinded when I see.
She’s so close I can feel it, hear it
But the lake is beneath human flesh and mind.
The water lilies were so close, the olive branches near
But it was gone in the drop of one petal.
We needed the bridge,
it’s sturdy stone blocks.
We needed the moon beneath the glimmering waters,
shining a new light into the lonely night.
But the lake is beneath me.
The lake is a secret.
A secret in plain sight.
My secret is hidden from the from the whole world.
Above those water lilies, below those olive branches,
in that starry, starry lake.
