Only a short drive from home,
the Lake View Inn sprawls across lush lawns
and stretches its boathouses into the calm lake.
Stained glass windows
dye the crystal chandeliers with a prism of colors
yet the guests rapidly pace the hardwood floors
too consumed by other affairs to notice the sheer beauty of the place.
It is as if they are unaffected by the sunsets
that sending colorful sparkling ripples
across the Inn’s swimming pools.
So we have to enjoy it all for them.

We creep down the back stairs
towels wrapped tight
covering our bikinis and swim trunks
trying our hardest not to look suspicious.
After slowly opening the gate
we are greeted by a large empty pool.
Steam rises through the cool night air
seeping through open windows
that display a starry summer night.
We all agree
someone should be taking advantage of this extravagant place
why not us
even if we don't technically have a room here.

Strangely enough the manager of the Inn
does not look at it the same way.
We see his tight tie and shiny name tag
quickly walking our way,
a furious look on his face.
That’s when we run.
Trying not to laugh we find hiding spots
until his yells fade out.
Once he’s long gone
we emerge and say our goodbyes
and pile into the car.
But we won't be gone for long,
we really enjoyed our stay.
