Where is America?

It's been lost for years.
I can't find the spark of  pride
Red, white and blue BAM- you're dead.
I never learned about Detroit in school.
How many years since apartheid?
Oh, where is America, where has she gone?
Breaking News: A mass school shooting has claimed the lives of...
Is she sprinting along in the prairie grasses? From what?
Murderers are singing with our children in the schools.
Is she lurking in bombed out buildings?
In other news, the stock market took a hit today...
Shivering in the Boston rain?
Ask not what your country can do for you...
Withering in the quiet violence of mental hospitals?
A military discourse in underwater basket weaving.
Where are the songs that Whitman can hear?
19 men and the wails of thousands in the city that day...
Where are the Fireside Poets?
The man lives in the abandoned Detroit General Motors plant.
I want to rescue my America
The sun sets on millions of gallons of oil.
From the ruin of adolescence
Where have our children gone?
From the creeping dampness of blight
Camden, New Jersey... Once home to hundreds of thousands...
I whisper to my America
Saturday Night Live celebrates its fortieth anniversary this year.
From the Top of the Rock
Oh beautiful for spacious skies
To the prairie skies of dappled blues and pinks
For amber waves of grain
To the fields of Americana
For purple mountain majesties
I pray in my private mortgage hell.
Mine eyes have seen the glory in the coming of the Lord!
Uncle Sam, your people need YOU.
