Where I'm From
I am the fresh cut grass,
From Cheeros and Nestlie Quick
I am from the backyard pool,
(Clear, chlorine-filled,
cool and refreshing)
I am from the smiling sun flowers,
The rose bushes
Whose red petals fell like rain.
I am from the home cooked meals and the El Gato eyes,
From Mac and Milly.
I am from the church pews on Sunday morning,
The smell of clean leather and car wax.
From the "You are loved",
and the "Remember your manners".
I'm from the pastor's strong voice bounding off the rafters.
I'm from St. Mary's and Weslow's branch,
Potato pancakes and rhubarb pie.
From the six year old repainting of the classic car,
And the barefoot horseback riding of Grey ponies.
From the old photos of those who's memories will be cherished forever.
This is where I'm from,
This is who I am.
