Leaving the Lost

I walk down this street and see a lost soul, in a box, in the street, so cold and alone.
I walk down this street and see the junkie begging for his fix, another high, another od, another stiff
I walk down this street and see these shattered dreams, these broken promises, these silent screams
This town of hope in years long past, now filled with suffering and broken glass
This town has died and the people within, have lost their way, consumed by sin
This city of evil, now bleak and worn, filled with endless new tragedies being born
These souls have been twisted, their eyes are slammed shut
There’s no more redemption, their chances used up
I look and I find you alone in this place
So broken and lost and fallen from grace
I’m trying to help you, but I’m not getting through
I’ve been trying too long, There’s one thing left to do
If you don’t want my help then I’ll leave you alone
But remember I tried, tried to give you a home
So with tears in my eyes and my heart turned to dust
I don’t want to leave, but I know that I must

So I’m leaving this city, and I know all too well
That I’m leaving you here, alone in your hell
