Toy Soldier
Children run,
barefoot on the dirt ground,
toys in their hands
and eager,
to pull the trigger.
They huddle
sharing their dreams
and making plans,
of a bright future.
Young fists raise into the air.
Voices cry out loud.
They leap before they look,
into what was once promised glory.
Unknowing that their hands,
will become rough,
caked with dirt,
and unable to wash away the blood.
Unknowing they will age,
faster than time,
scarred by memories,
and without innocence.
