When We Meet Again
When we meet again i’ll curl my long blonde hair because I remember how you loved the way it brushed up against your shoulders like a gilded cloak of innocence.
When we meet again i’ll put on your favorite perfume to remind you of the sleepless summer we spent together and the winter we spent bundled up together playing movies that never caught our attention for more than a minute.
When we meet again I will hold my breath when we hug because the feeling of your arms around me mixed with the scent of your cologne would remind me too much of the way you used to hold me close with my face up against your clenched arms covered by soft linen which proved to me that just a scent could feel like home.
When we meet again i’ll look away from your eyes because otherwise i’d be reminded of our past memories, replaying images of our staring contests that never seemed to have a winner because we were too busy getting lost in each others gaze.
When we meet again I won't look at your long eyelashes that flutter when you blink because i’ll save myself from remembering the way you used to give me “butterfly kisses” when I was sad because you knew exactly how to make me smile.
When we meet again i’ll be careful not to circle around the idea of you seeing someone because I would be too afraid to hear you say you put your love somewhere else.
When we meet again i’ll be sure to not touch your hand because i’ll miss the way it used to cradle my face when you would lean over to kiss me gently.
When we meet again i’ll refrain from telling I miss you because hearing your much kinder way of saying “its over” will burn like sirens in my ears.
When we meet again i’ll talk about my friends. I’ll leave out the fact that I wait for any moment to bring you up into conversation to act like you’re still in my presence and most nights I stay home alone because not even a bottle of vodka and distractions can make me forget the way I used to get drunk off the sound of your voice.
When we meet again I won't look at your lips when you speak because the memories of how they felt against mine will flash through my mind like a thousand lightning bolts shooting through the night sky which was exactly like how it felt to be with you.
