Hit and Run
My screams are piercingly silent
Yet that makes them all the more violent.
Crouching low so none will see
The attempts I make to mask my misery.
All the while my shielded eyes plea
Help... Please... Anyone.. Help me..
Surrounding shadows carress my face
Feeding my sadness and disgrace.
Questioned by others if I'm "alright"
It's all I can do to blink tears from my sight.
Fingertips digging into my arm
Cutting, bleeding, I'm paralyzed in alarm.
The screech of metal will forever ring
As within my eyes the salty tears sting.
Rapidly blinking them from my eyes
I throw my shoulders back and rise.
Off of the ground, gazing toward the light
Taking a stand, facing my fight.
Within that moment I find determination
That with no matter how much frustration,
Until the day I use the last of my might,
I know, my life shall be lived right.

This piece was inspired by my car accident. The accident made me realize how much I value my life and how important it will be for me to live it for myself.
