The beginning & the end.
The beginning and end are exactly the same
You begin with seeing them from across the room
You begin with short conversations about everything
You begin by learning about their family, their friends
The scar they got from wrecking their bike in third grade
You go on dates and spend all your time together
You begin to get into a comfortable routine
You begin to sit without talking at all
You count the years you’ve spent together
You begin to feel so sad when they leave
You kiss them hello every time they come home
  Then something changes with you
You end up sitting across the room unable to stand their presence
You end the day with short arguments about everything
You learn that you hate their family, their friends
That ugly scar they got from wrecking their bike in the third grade
You end up never going on dates and hating spending so much time together
You end up with a boring, monotonous routine
You end up sitting with nothing to say at all
You end up counting the years you’ve wasted with them
You end up sad as you watch them leave
And everything ends with a kiss on the cheek as they go
Everything begins and ends exactly the same
With you looking at one another as strangers
Merely passing by without a single thought.

I wanted to write something about how the beginning and the end of a relationship are so similar. I've seen a number of relationships, including my own, begin and end just the same way as this poem.
