Desert Thoughts
Fetch me the night,
the old mother of the stars
Let go of the sun
the conceited lover of time
For I have known the voices
the faces and the smoky eyes
Have known the hate-filled eyes,
the ragged claws of dawn of the laughing sun
And I have prayed and wept
wept and grown old
For the sweet perfume
the bare arms and the smell of stale beer
I have known it all
and forgotten it then
