I Would
I said I would stay,
In pouring rain and howling winds,
In sailing clouds and golden sun,
In drifting snow and ethereal mist.
I would stay in sleepless nights,
When the only one to snore
Is the sky with its thunder
And the only time I see your face
Is when brilliant lightning
Dances across the night.
I would stay as the winter melts
And the winds grow softer, sweeter
And I would stay, too,
As summer slips into stinging rain
And rusting leaves,
As the world’s colours are dulled
By bitterness and snowflakes.
I would stay when the water
Creeps up over our feet,
Over our knees,
Up to our chests.
I would stay as the winds
Rip away entire worlds,
So long as you are beside me
To hold me to the ground,
My anchor, my roots.
I would stay in prettily flickering flames
And their roaring monstrous brethren,
I would stay in smoke
As it chokes the wind
And forces tears from my eyes.
I would stay as everything
Turns to ash,
A twisted dark snow falling.
I would stay as shadows creep
And consume all light,
I would stay in night
After all the stars have burned away?
And the moon has fallen.
I would stay in day
When the sun is smothered
By mighty black clouds,
And I would stay when the sun?
Casts sparks onto forests and fields
So that they blaze and burn
Into dust.
I said I would stay.
And I will.

My best friend is going through a rough time and I told her I would be there for her. I wrote this for her, but haven't shown it to her yet. I think many will take it to be about romantic love, but it's really about the loyalty and love between friends.
