Ghosts
You can always tell when she's near
The atmosphere shifts
The heavens open up
Piercing, mysterious, alluring green eyes
Delicate lips
A smile brighter than the sun's rays
Whitest of teeth
She walks by, so close, yet so distant
Her wonderful scent and fragrance
Trailing her every graceful move
Oh how joyful she must be
To be as beautiful as she is
She strides through school
With friends flocking all around her
Boys and girls, all eyes on her
But does anyone notice
Her joyful eyes are masked
With a dark and painful secret
As she patiently waits to be picked up
Her phone starts to buzz and beep
She steps into her mother's car
And is whisked away from school
How was your day
It was good, she lies
The texts start to stream in
Why don't you just go die
Do us a favor and end yourself
She feels the sting in her eyes
And fights back tears
Oh no, she can't do this now
Not in the car with her mother
She must wait
Until she enters her own world
Chaos ensues as she comes home
Mother and father shout out loud
She stows herself away in her secret world
Door closed, hinges squeak
She sinks down below
Hugging her knees
Tears streaming down her fragile cheeks
The darkness inside wanting to come out
Her thoughts claw at the edge of her brain
The monsters under her bed are awakened
Her heart blackens with each cry
Ghosts spew out of her bedroom walls
Vision blurs and smudges
Insecurity grips her very existence
Stupid, worthless, piece of s***
Everything all comes back to her
Dirty little s***
She knows what she must do
To make it all go away
A pencil sharpener awaits her return
She unscrews it and lays it down
Razor in her hand
Her demons ripping through the surface
Fine streaks appear over her beautiful skin
Crimson red beads emerge
Arms, thighs, hips ravaged
Blood and tears fall simultaneously
Cut after cut
Word after word
Fat, cut
Loser, cut
Failure of a daughter
She's had enough
Her skin numb under touch
She finds a strange relief
Asking for pain to relieve her problems
The monsters have disappeared
Ghosts nowhere to be found
Thoughts and darkness suppressed
Until tomorrow
