Your Song

Do I serenade you with my sweet sounds?

That come forth from my lungs billowing like the breeze.

And do they make you feel you brand new?

Child of the world, feel the fire in my song and let it vivify your hollow chest.

Darling, do not grow cold, let no longer time oppress your thoughts, and never grief rule you world.

Child, come sing with me, please, because you've grown silent and still and your lips tremble with loss, and your teeth grind from praying too hard for life.

Mother

Do not cease your song, but let it spill out of your maw as if it were your very breath,

Trickling into my ears and into my mind,

So that I know you have not been silenced by the murderous hands of time.
