I

He starts at 5:30 in the morning
the sun is still hidden in the darkness
waking up to the cold wet touch of the yellow dog's black nose,
followed by the whining for food and to be let out as a four year old does
As the dog is let out he is hit by a huge gust of cold air
he shivers as a new born baby squirms around
He eats and showers and wakes his kids so they wont be late to school
They leave and he is home with the dog
saying good-bye as though it was the last time they would see each other
Jumps in his gold truck with his silk red tie almost on and goes to work
The traffic is packed like a bears vs packers game
He finally pulls into work and punches in

II
The day is done he is still working though
he needs to finish otherwise nothing will get done tomorrow
when the building is empty he and the janitor are the last to go
at least it is a Friday the end of the period no more late nights
he gets in his truck the way home he stops at an orange store and walks down the aisle
he finds finds the scent of sweet wood
expertly as though it was a contest he inspects all of the wood and chooses only the best
his new project can only be made with the best wood
the smell of the chemicals that preserve the wood are sweet as a kid in a candy store to him
he leaves the store with wood stacked high on the cart and heads to his truck
the once high truck is now lowered by the weight of the wood

III
He gets to work getting out all of his tools saw drills and hammers
He measures twice and cuts once the table saw blade is on an angle
the cut goes through easily and he continues every cut right on the mark
saw dust and scrapes of wood fly to the ground
he work starts to come alive
the whirl and zing of the saw blade going through the wood fills his work shop
As his project is nearing completion the starts to heat up a piece of iron
while he heats it up he continues to work he hammers in the last nails and
make sure its all lined up and its almost done
the piece of iron is taken out of furnace and is burned into the wood that faces out
he final starts to stain when its all done his smile quickly turns to a frown
for he knows that it will never be sold he throws it into the shed with the rest of his projects
they stay there covered in a thick layer of dust
they are waiting for the day they are sold and are used
he shuts the door and locks it as he goes inside and goes to bed and wait to start a new day
