Don't Tell Me You Love Me
Don't tell me you love me
When you need me
Because when you don't need me anymore
Will you still love me?
It's insubstantial.
Don't tell me you love me
When I am acting as your anchor
Keeping you grounded
Because when you become stable,
Will you still love me then?
Don't tell me you love me
When I am acting as your pedestal
Lifting you up
Because when you get high,
Will you still love me then?
It's insubstantial.
Tell me you love me
When you enjoy me
Tell me you love me
When I inspire you
Tell me you love me
When you love you
Because if when
You are completely grounded
Because if when
You are higher than high
You still love me
Then tell me you love me
It's concrete.

I wrote this piece as I was pondering the true meaning of love one day, and as I have been cynical about love in the past, the words of a poem assisted me in explaining my idea of true love. Others should realize that self love is required first to truly love another person, otherwise you're just waiting for someone to save you.
