I tell you about a boy
A boy with blue eyes and long hair
And like the friend you are you spring into action
Where did you see him?
What did he say?
Did you catch his name?
And now he's a pretty boy and a fun fantasy

A week passes, he's just a memory, and then we stumble across him again
Like the friend you are, you give me a look, nudge me his way
I blush, turn around
He walks past, takes notice, says something funny
You tell me later you saw him looking at me

Now he's not just a pretty face
Now he's a spark of hope
Now he makes my knees weak and my heart flutter
Because now he's real and now maybe it could be because you saw him looking

But now he's anxiety and overthinking
Why was he looking?
Did he hear us talking?
Did I embarrass myself?
My hair was a mess
I looked fat in my too-tight shorts
I didn't put on deodorant
You comfort me, try to tell me he was looking because I was pretty
I won't listen, but you keep comforting me like the friend you are

And then you admire him
And you think he's pretty too
You ask me what we do if we both like him
My stomach is lead as I brush it off and say I never had a chance anyway
The hope is gone because I'm anxiety and overthinking and you're too busy wanting him to help get me out

Everything is "we" now
We should talk to him
He was looking at us
What do we do the next time we see him?
Now even in my fantasies he isn't mine

And we see him again
And now you're the one fretting
Because you didn't get to talk to him
Why is the world against you?
You're invisible, you don't have a chance
You try to get me to pity you

What kind of friend are you?
You pushed me towards him
You made me talk to him
You made the thought of him give me butterflies
You told me he was looking and you made me care
And now I'm in too deep to walk away and you want him too

And now it's you
How do we find out if he's looking at you?
We need to orchestrate how you'll bump into him again
You should go talk to him
And I just have to watch
Because I'm anxiety and overthinking and you're no friend of mine when you look for him while I'm not there
You made me care and I'm drowning while you steal my fantasy
Like the friend you are
