A Walking Robot
The trenches killed me
With my body still intact
I was a walking robot
A moving dummy
It was a peaceful time
As peaceful as it could be
We sat there playing cards
To the music of the artillery
I think of my other friends
In bunker C-31
As I check on them, they are feeling fine
So as I arrive back at my first bunker a minute later
I see the rubble
With my best friend's face still smoking from the blast
Dizzy with pity
And thoughts of my life just spared
I arrive to see the ruins of bunker C-31
My life was spared twice in three minutes
But destroyed in less then a second
I am a walking robot
A manikin with motion.

This poem came to me in the middle of a school day. We were reading a historical document, and it really spoke to me. Everything depicted in this poem is true, except for the bunker names.
