The Mighty 8th's
Standing, staring, admiring the B-17: flying fortress in all its glorious, beautyful, history;
From construction, to the moment after the flight touchdown, to being decommissioned.
This is, and was, America's best bomber.
The shadowy underbelly and bomb carrige,
Glisten, and with a hazy reflection,
I see myself in a bullet riddled, aluminum skin.
Silence; no, supressed whispers are shared, as
People admire, and gaze upon the magnificence
Of this B-17 bomber.
What did the men think when taking this plane into battle?
The Mighty 8th Air Museum, evokes feelings,
Of honor, respect, and freedom.
