First of the Season
The sky was stirred by stifling winds
Like a spoon circling in a mug
Filled with milk and coffee
The darkness that reined above us
Was distorted by the white vortex
Filling our vision
And coating our faces
The chill in the breeze turned our cheeks pink
Our eyes watered
Synthetic tears raced down our faces
Dropping, meshing into the rapidly disappearing ground
You reached for my trembling hands
The cloth on your gloves smothered my fingers
Bringing them comfort
Warming their nerves
You looked at my crystalized eyes
You sighed, your breath escaping your mouth
Turning to a visible spirit
Created by the depths of your lungs
And vanishing into the deathly quiet atmosphere
The patter of snow hitting our damp clothes
Echoed in my ears
Silencing the thoughts
Screaming within my mind
Your mouth quivered
As if you were going to say something
That would shift the direction
Of the one-way storm
I nodded
I knew that what you fought saying
Was something that I had already heard
A million times over
But hearing it in your voice
Would send those million times to shame
And leave intense meaning to the few times
That the words escaped your lips
I pulled you in by the arm
And pressed my body against yours
Your heat radiated through my chest
Your heartbeat synced up with mine
Creating a disturbance in the whispers
Of the desolate air
That devoured our presence
Turning us into nothing
But time and energy
To me, you were more than empty space
You were every snowflake
That hit my face
Glazing my eyelashes
And glistening in my pupils
You were every gust of the powerful currents
That swiped my hair from my face
Revealing an infatuated gaze
You were the cotton scarf
Wrapped around my throat
Choking my words
And stuttering my speech
You were the loving sounds of the aerospace
Ringing through my ears
And into my head
Making my knees weak
You were the frost layering my lips
Turning them red with desire
Yearning for your kiss
You are the gale of snow reaping at my window tonight
You are the light on my back porch
Reminding me that with every storm
There is an undying brilliance
That shines through the precipitation
Attacking it
You are the thunder in my heart
The hurricane in my stomach
The avalanche in my veins
The twister in my mind
And the love that makes the destructive weather
Worth dancing in.
