A Simple Road

Not turning back to the simple streets I know

I am alone

Letting my papery hands graze this snow

This road shivering with bare trees

Drenched in white

Looking left and right

My feet move forward-

Feeling the cold burn of the ice

The snow falling down just to pelt this ground so old
Journeying down this long, lonely, lonely, ancient road.

Leave behind

Redefine

My values, my morals, my purpose

Erase these thoughts, let my mind be wordless

Ring master of this simple circus

Look up to the blizzard above

Falling under the influence

Of the dark sky saying good night to the innocent

But there's no time to worry now

So I'll enjoy this simple ignorance

And travel this snowy road

Toward the storm and away from my home.

Wind against my back, another road crosses with my own

The branches on trees overgrown

With moss turned white with snow

Black from years of being alone

It’s time to turn away from the trees.

My chattering teeth rattling my bones

Drag away my papery hands from grazing the snow

And take the long, lonely, lonely, ancient road

Turning back from the woods and to the simple streets I know

Leaving behind this storm and returning to my simple home.
