The Cutain
Standing there
Behind the curtain of safety
Anticipation running through each soul’s veins
Their fate awaits them, once this curtain rises
The curtain that separates the feeling of serene from nerve
This is what we have been training for
This is what we have been preparing for
One mistake can mess everything up.
Standing, waiting for the general to give his orders
It’s dark
It’s quiet
It’s nerve wrecking
And then, the curtain rises
Nerves, tension, fear dart out like the soldiers inside of us
The fight has just begun
Each and every one of us knows our position
Words flood out like the blood from the wounded
Time goes on and the feeling of ease kicks in
Our energy strengthens, and the other side can see it
But halfway through, exhaustion overwhelms our fighters
We must keep pushing through; we must not surrender
We must not forget our mission, our obligation
The last solider presents his position to the battle
The battle of overcoming fear
We have fulfilled our objective and impressed all who have watched
We present ourselves one last time, to show our success
And then, we go back behind the curtain
And it is all over.
