Thunderstorm
I turn on the news and see a forecast of a thunderstorm. Immediately, I know it will be a good day. I step outside not bothering to bring an umbrella, the rain never bothered me. As I walk to my car I feel heat that feels much more intense than the thermometer reads. I feel my hair lift and lighten as the humidity tugs my already curly hair into tighter spirals. As I am driving with the windows down I smell a metallic smell in the air, and am able to roll them up just in time. As the sky darkens I see a pitter patter of raindrops begins to splatter all over my windshield.
At school I hear the wind pushing against the window and look outside. Just as I glance into the sky I see a sudden flash. Soon everyone in my first period class is staring outside, at a cloud that seems to go on forever. Just as the teacher begins to talk again we hear a loud boom that rattles my bones. Then, I see a second strike of lightning. Quickly, I trace the path of light with my eyes, because it lasts only a second as it darts from cloud to cloud. With a loud sigh the teacher closes the shades on the window. I return most of my focus back to her, with the occasional exception of listening for the boom and grumble of the thunder.
After school I step outside knowing fully that the storm has been over for a while. However, the after effects still remain. The grass is a more vivid shade of green. The air smells sweet as the smell of rain lingers. As I walk to my car I notice temporary little streams along the edges of the road. They carry little leaves, which float like boats, along with them. Everything feels more at peace as I hear the birds sing. As I reach my car I notice shimmering puddles surrounding it. I look up and see a beautiful bridge of colors. This storm has left one final view behind. It was a magnificent rainbow.
