Hourglass

I thought
I would be happy?
but I am trapped in this ditch-
Fifty feet high
and I am stuck.
I want to be saved.
I want to know what is real
so I don’t fall again
into this abyss.
I need a rope
and chain.
Or a rock
and I will carve my way out.
Don’t let me die here-
I want to leave my mark
so I live for a while longer
even after my death.
And if my time has run out
I will be the one
to break my hourglass.
