Glass of Milk
When 9 o’clock would approach
My sister and I knew the time was coming
Time for us to go upstairs
Put on our pajamas
And call to our parents
“Can one of you bring up a glass of milk?”
We asked this question every night
Not knowing who would perform the task
All we wanted was one of them to tuck us in
As the years passed
We would ask less and less,
But on our last night in the house
We made sure we asked,
“Can one of you bring up a glass of milk?”
After that, if we would ask again
We would know who would tuck us in
