Wake Up
Wake up.
So that we can play and dance and sing.
So we can run into the fairy forest and catch light as it flickers by.
I want to laugh with you as the sunbeams crash through leaves.
Wake up.
That way we can walk to the garden today,
And pick berries and run through the fields.
That way we can put butterflies on our noses.
Wake up.
Because the sun is shining and the birds are singing.
Because I am waiting for you to come
And help me learn to ride my bike.
Wake up.
So tomorrow we can go to Hawaii,
We can swim with the giant sea turtles
And eat chocolate volcanoes at Roy's.
Wake up.
But first pretend to be asleep, and then jump
Out of bed and surprise us all. Tickle me,
and lift me on your soldiers so I can already see tomorrow.
Wake up.
Because I have a secret to tell you,
Sometimes I pretend you aren't sick.
Sometimes I pretend you never were.
Wake up.
When you aren't here I don't have my
Best friend. When you aren't awake
I realize how much I need you.
Wake up.
If not for you and not for me,
Then for mom. Her soul gets lonely
She needs you too.
Wake up.
People keep telling me their hearts
are crying for me, and I'm not ready to let
My own heart begin to cry.
Wake up.
I'm tired of waiting, in this
Empty world without you.
Just wake up.
"Grandpa wake up.."
Whispers this young and fragile girl.
"Wake up so that we can walk in the light".
"Wake up so that we can laugh again".
"Wake up. So that I do not feel alone..."
“Wake up...”
