You Lie
I refrain from imagining what you’re doing anymore—
where you are or who you’re with.
But I know.  I know now you’re not with me.
Her hair shining in the sun,
  face fresh with youth—
  I can’t compete and you can’t deny.
Your eyes, mesmerized and enraptured by her,
cast a shadow over me, as I fade into the abyss.
I bore your burdens and a band of your promise,
a false forever you have long since forgotten.
She bathes in your affections and admirations,
while I languish in loneliness and sorrow.
She knows not of the secret you shelter,
not of the life you once lived
  nor the commitment you condemned.
You lie to me to lie with her.
