Dear Past Love
You sat down beside me
And I forgot how to breathe
I experienced heartbeats my chest had never known
thoughts I never thought I was capable of having
I began to feel unduly comfortable
All too suddenly all too careless
But you took me in and filled me with empty promises
Addled by uncontrolled waves of feelings
And convinced we were each others missing half
I blindly entered uncharted lands unknown to my body
You were my reason of being
My every step my every smile
We gave the statement "I love you" a meaningless reiteration
But now it is all lost
It was taken away from me, all too abruptly
I should have known better than to fall for a man like you
Because all it took was one night, and it was gone in a second
Similar to the sun that comes out and shines for the world
Giving everyone heat and light but goes away as soon as it sees the chance
You're like the sun to me, an illusionist
You were speeding away from me like darkness hastens to slip away to let light in
You fell for her sparkling eyes and gleaming smile
And as for me
I will bring myself to say now
I will not covet to have you no more
I will learn to push away the thoughts of your hands holding me
Your body set closely next to mine
I'll be insouciant of what'll betide of you
For now I'm proud to say to the world
You are my dear past love
