Do what you want and say what you feel, because those who mind don't matter, and those who matter don't mind. - Dr. Suesss

Loaded

Aimed

Ready to fire

Steady dad always said

But what would he think

Of his precious princess

If he came home

To bloodstained truths

With a pretty bullethole

Through the roof of my mouth

Through the top of my skull

A box of heart wrenching letters

Left on my bed

Whispering screams of untold apologies

Things like

Im sorry

I'm not good enough

Not pretty enough

Not bright enough

Sorry I couldn't be

Everything you expected of me

But don't mistake me as cowardly

I pulled the trigger with pride

And maybe

We all can agree

This time I escaped hell

Just barely

The author's comments:

I wrote this because sometimes we all face our deepest monsters by hurting ourselves. This is the story of how I wanted to end my life. In the poem I state how there is a box of untold apologies and the truth is we as humans apologize to much. Maybe this is just a poem we can look at as the cowardish way out and how not to react. You can make it through whatever is causing you pain. And that's the purpose of poetry, to express all these feelings and emotions into beautiful poems. So I hope people learn a lesson that not everyone has it easy and youre not alone in whatever you're battling.
