In the 21st Century childhood was murdered!
Every thought, every move was for a seven letter word
C-O-L-L-E-G-E

Where did the lazy Sunday go?
When children could wake-up late
And ride bikes in streets

We are children!
We are young!
Are we not special enough?
Admission rates are low!

We do not sleep
There is no time
Every moment must be filled with productivity
There is no time
Yet where did this expectations arise?

You, me, her
What is the difference?
Our GPAs off by a hundredth
Our SAT scores vary by just one point
Yet we are different

Good luck if you are not a minority,
Good luck if you are not a legacy
Good luck if  you do not have money

College consumes us.
It gobbles us up as if we are turkeys on Thanksgiving
Applications cut our skin with swords used to slay dragons

Though, it is not college that drives us insane
IT IS OURSELVES!

The author's comments:

In 2014 high school students are consumed by college. They often feel that college is causing them this pain, but it is themselves.
