I remember
I remember the times you weren't home,
and all the times I was left alone.
The darkness ready to surround me,
and drown me,
like I wasn’t a child in need.
The heat burning
and learning
what to do to hurt me.
The cold always nipping
and chipping
off pieces of my dignity.
The light never came
and it was always the same.
I was a child in need,
a child in pain,
a child so desperate to receive,
what it would never get.
To this day,
it will never be the same.
