Baby Cousin
We destroyed ourselves,
baby cousin,
and there’s nothing,
absolutely nothing,
that could fix what we have done.
No amount of time,
could reverse our changes.
No length in measurement,
could help us reverse these long
dreadful steps we took.
Not even playing pretend
could fix this now,
so why don’t we just face the facts,
baby cousin.
Nothing can take us back to the way
we were, before you met him,
and before I met her.
We’ll keep going like this,
baby cousin.
With our eyes holding secrets,
and our lips spilling lies.

This is a poem I wrote recently when I was feeling like I was drifting away from my family and friends and all of it just reminded me of how my cousin and I drifted apart and changed completely over the course of a year.
