Human Things
Outside the wall that wants and thinks the worst,
Clinking glasses of gin and tonic
Too hard--
Breaking, shattering, cracking.
I feel it too.
My cell has four walls
How do I get out
Looking through broken windows
The glass blankets the dirt
Mixing with the shards of glass that once held gin
And tonic.
I will die,
But not in this apartment,
No, I'm
Tripping, stumbling, falling, scraping
My knees on the rough earth
Trying to get out.
The blood drips down my shins
The scrapes sting my raw skin.
Oh, the human things I know.
