Beautiful Disguise

She was different from all the rest:
Always mysterious, like she was keeping a secret.
A book set aside, left upon the shelf:
Simply only for looks.
Outside, sunshine and all things carefree:
Perfection from head to toe.
Pretty.
Poised.
Presentable.
Inside, the darkest time of night.
A fire destroying everything in its path.
The lurking shadows inside her mind taking control.
She knew it too.
Every morning looking at herself in the mirror.
Protecting others from the beast inside.
Putting on the most beautiful disguise.
