Absence Makes The Heart Grow Fonder
My back against the cold, cruel oak
I feel the dew begin to soak
Into my shoes and wonder when
The sun will melt the fog again.
The wind creeps in, barely a whisper
But soon makes the leaves dance and shiver,
Then out of the corner of my eye,
I can see you struggling to defy
The mist that tries to block your path,
The wind that shrieks like a psychopath.
And then the voice starts to scream out
Filling our heads with fear and doubt.
Slowly, faithfully, we keep on
Trying to hold out ’til dawn,
Knowing that eventually
Our struggling will pay off and we’ll
Defeat these eerie beasts and then
We’ll be together once again.
As my hear fights this battle
I can feel things start to unravel
And my mind begins to wander,
Absence makes the heart grow fonder,
That’s what they try to tell you
But who’s to say if it’s really true??
