Beyond the Bars
There is no life,
Existing within these bars,
Life is a stand still,
It does not exist here.
I dream beyond the bars,
With birds flying,
And the squirrels,
All playing in the trees.
I dream about my family,
It’s such an intense feeling,
Seeing them,
So joyful and free.
Every time I get a whiff,
Of a fresh spring breeze,
I think beyond the bars,
Of the things that go on.
The sweet smell of nature,
The smell of the grass,
And the flowers,
Blowing in through the jail window.
If only I was proven innocent,
For the things I didn't do,
I wouldn't be dreaming or thinking,
Beyond the bars.
