You show me what beauty is really made of, it’s made of leaves and trees not makeup and hair
You are as wise as an owl in the stories you told me at night
You show me what life is about, about loving and caring not being rich and famous
You showed me that there is more to life
Not just city lights and air conditioning, but camp fires and lightning bugs
You showed me the love a family could hold
Full of joy and laughter and tears and pain together
I remember your teasing that was full of smiles
The way your eyes would light up like stars, your loud laughter and easy joy
The way you brought life into the room with your confidence
Your strong arms full of beautiful embraces, your calloused hands from days of hard work
Working with hammer and nails and working with rope and high sails
You were fearless and full of curiosity, so intrigued to learn more about this dark world
The world that you knew was made light, by only one God
Your God, and my God, you believed down here
Your faith as strong as the mountains you faced, as deep as the oceans you crossed
I didn’t know you that well, but I want to know you
And I want to know what you knew
At the end of a hard week, I know that you would have persevered
So I do my best to pray up to the God that you prayed to also
Now you are with Him, and you would say not to miss you
But I do, I miss you, and I love you.

This is for my grandpa. I was inspired to write this because I have missed him and I had to write an Ode for school. I wanted to do something really meaningful to me. I hope you all like it. He was an amazing man and he never gave up and he lived his life well. I love you Grandpa.

Sorry it took a long time to reply and yeah I totally agree about the He or he thing when talking about God. Thank you!

Jess, darling, this is so beautiful!! Wow I really love this peice. Your Grandpa sounds like the kind of guy everyone should have had the wonderful pleasure of knowing <3 I'm sure he and God both are smiling at this poem :) Speaking of God, thank you for capitolizing (I'm sorry I don't know how to spell it lol) He when talking about God. Lol that's weird to say I know, but its a personal pep peve of mine when people write 'he' instead of 'He.' Really though, this poem is beautiful :) Amazing work, Jess. Keep writing, babe ;)
