Persephone
She’s hopelessly broken
Yet yearning for something
pale hands stretching further
away from the light.
All gone and burned up
by late nights and tears shed
between what she knew
and against what felt right
She looks all around her
the night closes in
the darkness surrounds her
it’s time to give in
But she opens a window
the shutters fly back
the outside flees in
it doesn’t stay black
Alone but less lonely
She’s no longer lost
Away from the torment
No matter the cost.

My poem is a piece about the Greek Goddess Persephone, alternately named Kore. I wrote about her imprisonment in the underworld and how she escapes that, even if it is only be the intervention of those around her and only for a small time frame.
