Cold Waters
Salty water splashed my feet
And my toes hung
Over the edge of the rocks
But I trusted the ocean to keep me safe
And I trusted my feet to stay where they were
And I trusted the stars above me to catch me if I were to fall.
The waves roared ferociously
And I crept forward
And the night invited me
To listen to its serenity.
I leaned forward to watch
As foam the color of clouds
ricocheted off of the rocks below me in the glowing moonlight.
But I lost my balance
And the tide pulled me in
And I fell freely;
Beautifully,
Into icy waters.
I screamed into darkness
But the gorgeous white dots only twinkled as I watched them.
My body went numb and my throat dried out despite the water flooding into my lungs.
As my eyes closed,
The stars drew themselves in my mind.
In my last thought, I knew one thing:
My stars won't catch me.
