It’s a game played on many surfaces,
and in many other countries
From the crack of dawn,
till the last ray of sun shines
It's sometimes 1 on 1
but more lively with two apiece
there is always a constant struggle
gut instinct versus practice
should I or should I not

It’s the inevitable sweaty handle
of the well worn grip
from hours and hours
of perfecting that swing
swinging before the ball arrives
otherwise it will surely fly behind you
no one can rest for too long
with the ball constantly changing
will it spin or skid, who knows

It’s a duel to the end
a mighty tiger
against a roaring lion
blow for blow they battle
with each trying to out think the other
A flaming forehand here
then a nasty drop shot there
oh look theres an open door
now the prolonged point is over

It’s a game played
for gold glory and the thrill of victory
the agony of defeat
pushes athletes to the edge
whether its a friendly fight
or a bitter rivalry
one will always play
for the pure joy
of playing tennis
