Insecurity
“You look so skinny!” a girl exclaims with admiring eyes.
Her hand reaches out to touch my sides.
I take a glance down, then stare --
how can she not see the fat hanging there?
Self-consciously, I wrap my arms around my flanks.
I let out a breathy giggle, and a whispered thanks,
“But you look better” is all I will say,
Then watch as that girl walks away.
My greedy eyes will follow her thighs
Instantly comparing her petite frame
to my ever shrinking one, complemented with shame.
