besser
The sand and wood chunks
we stepped on always
washed out,
and we always
raked them back into
place,
just like the tides of the ocean.
The hills and valleys
filled with life,
the buildings were
primitive,
except one.
Besser, the dining hall.
With a strange beauty
like a flower
in a downpour,
Besser stood proud,
the flags outside,
raised every morning
and lowered every
night, the the tune
of the birds, just
like the tides of the ocean.
