Our World

Our world: where there can be no winner

with love. Fragile, fickle love.

Where determination is tedious.

Laziness is parasitic.

Hope is childish.

Despair is morbid.

Faith is for fools;

indifference of it is hopeless.

Having firm beliefs and opinions is offensive.

Marriage means commitment until conflict arises.

But don't fret,

It's socially acceptable to try again, again, again.

Broken homes, single parents

When the butterflies leave their stomachs,

so does every intention to remain a family.

Children enter a state of confusion and fear;

forced to choose a side.

Believing the one abandoning them

sees nothing worth staying for.

Shallow love, temporary happiness.

Fueled by convenience.

Based on momentary feeling,

never creating a permanent product.

They escape in pursuit of fulfillment,

finding that the consequences are inevitable.

Unfortunately, children are raised

with a tainted view on love.

An infinite cycle of disappointment.

Crushed expectations, obliterated dreams

seize every opportunity

to separate families.

Never ceasing to bring heartbreak

to young and old.

Pain does not discriminate.

Insufficient love.

But, remarkable individuals

sever the chain

continuing to show effort.

Understanding that love is an action,

requiring endless endeavor.

They recognize the irreplaceable value

of their spouse, their children, their memories.

No other family could satisfy them.

Issues surface,

they are faced

without the slightest hesitation

the problems are confined,

extinguished.

Steadfast love.

Yet, our misguided world

impresses that with love,

there can be no winner.

The author's comments:

Divorce is a very important subject to me. My mother's parents are divorced and I have many close friends affected by it as well. I see what it does to them emotionally, and also how it hurts the entire family to fall apart. I believe families can truly love each other, but in this day and age, it is common that parents give up altogether.
