Forest Fires
Your kiss is like alcohol to my lips
bitter and addicting.
Your punches are like
a million knives
stabbing at my body.
I remember laying on the ground
shaking, scared
staring at the green grass
while you spat your drunken words at me.
All i could think about
was lakes
and forest fires
I imagined i was a lake and you,
you were a forest fire
your hate
and rage surrounding me,
breaking right at the edges
it hurts
but only on the edges.

This poem is not written from personal experiences, it is written to show what women go through on a day to day basis in abusive relationships. I hope this poem makes people aware of domestic violence.
