I Remember When
I remember your quiet laugh
And your sweet lipstick smile
I remember your warm hugs and kisses on my cheeks
I remember riding my pink little bike by your side
As you walked with me though your subdivision talking
About whatever came to mind
I remember your kitchen, filled with the smell of
Chef Boyardee and club crackers
Your specialty whenever I came over
I remember our sleepovers and the
Cinnamon raisin toast for breakfast
I remember how much you loved
Watching basketball, and how you
Always fell asleep before halftime
I remember your rocking chair with
A neat pile of newspapers to accompany it
I remember eating too many sweets,
And not wanting to go home
I remember your love for dogs, big or small
I remember the hot pink dress with matching high heels
You dressed me up in, and to top it off you added
Red lipstick and clip on earrings, and I felt like
A beauty queen
I remember going with my dad to pick you up
On Saturdays for your hair appointment
Because you didn’t have your license
I remember the smell of hair product that filled
The salon too
I remember when you got sick,
Day by day getting worse and worse
I remember the long visits,
Sitting at the end of the hospital bed after school
For hours
I remember drawing pictures for you while
We talked about school and boys
I remember the day you left me, and
How I didn’t want to believe it was true
What was I going to do without you here
The memories we shared will never be
Forgotten
Because I remember them all
By heart
